Youth-less town, new buildings

Location: Syangja

Houses are popping up every where. New vehicle owners in pretty much all the houses. An influx of migrants from rural areas to the nearest city center, where there is bustling business activity. Pretty much every other house has a general store or a cold store. The blessing of remittances is seen everywhere. However, the town lacks its luster: youths. Able-bodied youths are pretty much invisible. The inhabitants are composed of elderly, kids, and women whose husbands are out of the country. Labor is dear as supply has dwindled. No surprise, manual local wages are extremely high. For a day of manual work, wage was Rs 120 five or six years ago. Now, the wage is as high as Rs 500 a day, on average.
